Below, you will find a list of sessions focused on pulmonary hypertension that we are eagerly anticipating at ATS 2025. These sessions are organized in chronological order for your convenience.

TRUE GRIT: TALES OF IMPACTFUL SCIENCE IN DRUG DEVELOPMENT, CLINICAL TRIALS, GLOBAL REGISTRIES AND BIOBANKS FOR PULMONARY ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

  • Date: Sunday, May 18, 2025
  • Time: 9:15 AM – 10:45 AM
  • Location: Room 209-210 (South Building, Level 2), Moscone Center
    • Description: This session is designed for clinicians, researchers, and industry stakeholders, with the goal of fostering engagement and multidisciplinary dialogue. It will feature four focused presentations, each led by one or two experts, addressing strategic visions, implementation challenges, and real-world troubleshooting in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) therapeutic development. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of next-generation PAH therapies, including their mechanisms of action, emerging safety data, and long-term monitoring for molecular biology–related adverse effects. Additional discussions will highlight the integration of biobank resources, international registry collaborations, and optimized database use.

TWO BAD DISEASES ARE WORSE THAN ONE: PULMONARY HYPERTENSION IN ILD AND COPD

  • Date: Monday, May 19, 2025
  • Time: 10:45 AM – 11:45 AM
  • Location: Room 21, Hall E (North Building, Exhibition Level), Moscone Center
    • Description: This session will utilize an interactive, case-based approach to present clinically actionable guidance on the evaluation and management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or interstitial lung disease (ILD) who have suspected or confirmed pulmonary hypertension (PH). Emphasis will be placed on evidence-based screening protocols and tailored treatment strategies to optimize patient outcomes.

PULMONARY HYPERTENSION: UNRAVELING CELLULAR PHENOTYPE SHIFTS ACROSS THE TIMELINE OF DISEASE PROGRESSION

  • Date: Monday, May 19, 2025
  • Time: 2:15 PM – 3:45 PM
  • Location: Room 2018/2020 (West Building, Level 2), Moscone Center
    • Description: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive and multifactorial disease marked by elevated pulmonary arterial pressures that, if left untreated, can culminate in right ventricular failure and mortality. At the cellular level, PH is driven by dynamic phenotypic changes and plasticity among key vascular and perivascular cell types—including endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, pericytes, and fibroblasts. Despite growing recognition of these mechanisms, the precise triggers and regulatory pathways governing cellular de-differentiation and phenotype shifts remain poorly defined. This session will convene leading investigators and clinicians to explore cutting-edge research in cell plasticity and its implications for pathogenesis and treatment. The objective is to translate emerging molecular insights into novel, targeted therapeutic strategies.

THE LIVER-LUNG AXIS IN PULMONARY VASCULAR DISEASE: BENCH TO BEDSIDE

  • Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025
  • Time: 9:15 AM – 10:45 AM
  • Location: Room 2010/2012 (West Building, Level 2), Moscone Center
    • Description: This session will provide an in-depth examination of the complex interplay between hepatic function and the pulmonary vasculature in the context of pulmonary vascular diseases. Presentations will span molecular mechanisms to clinical implications, highlighting emerging data on how hepatic metabolic dysregulation contributes to systemic inflammation and vascular remodeling. Speakers will introduce newly characterized endophenotypes of liver dysfunction observed in pulmonary hypertension, and share insights from cutting-edge single-cell and spatial transcriptomic analyses that reveal key signaling pathways mediating liver–lung crosstalk. Additionally, the session will review recent trends and outcomes in liver transplantation for patients with portopulmonary hypertension and hepatopulmonary syndrome, offering a comprehensive view of evolving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

SHARED MECHANISTIC INSIGHTS IN INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE AND PULMONARY HYPERTENSION: THE ENDOTHELIAL CONNECTION

  • Date: Wednesday, May 21, 2025
  • Time: 8:15 AM – 9:45 AM
  • Location: Room 2014 (West Building, Level 2), Moscone Center
    • Description: Although traditionally underrecognized, the contribution of pulmonary vascular dysfunction to the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis is gaining increasing scientific attention. This symposium will present emerging data that connect vascular remodeling with the development and progression of both pulmonary hypertension (PH) and interstitial lung disease (ILD), with a particular focus on patients with Group 3 PH—those with coexisting PH and ILD. These conditions are often considered in isolation, but this session will bridge the gap, facilitating interdisciplinary discussion on shared vascular mechanisms across disease phenotypes. Key topics will include the interaction between endothelial and mesenchymal cell populations and the use of innovative experimental models to better understand endothelial biology within the fibrotic and hypertensive lung environment.
