Optimal Blood Pressure Management in Acute Cerebrovascular Disease

  • Time: 9:15am - 10:45am
  • Location: Hall K‚ Main Event Hall
  • Observational studies have revealed that patients with extreme fluctuations in blood pressure or hemodynamics tend to experience poorer outcomes, indicating that optimizing blood pressure may serve as a potential neuroprotective strategy. However, determining the optimal hemodynamic management in the immediate aftermath of a stroke or during the early stages of acute intracerebral hemorrhage remains a contentious issue and a significant challenge for healthcare professionals.

Modernizing Stroke Trials for the 21st Century -Scale, Strategy, and Technology

  • Time: 2:00pm - 3:00pm
  • Location: Hall K‚ Main Event Hall
  • The field of stroke research has experienced significant advancements in the last thirty years. However, traditional randomized controlled trial (RCT) methodologies are facing increasing challenges due to the complexity of clinical questions, the need for inclusivity, and rising costs. Today's trials must overcome critical barriers such as slow recruitment rates, logistical challenges at international sites, and the necessity for larger and more diverse populations. This session will focus on exploring innovative solutions to modernize stroke trial design and execution. By utilizing adaptive designs, innovative technologies, and enhanced infrastructure, we aim to create efficient, inclusive, and transformative research that will continue to advance stroke care on a global scale.

High Profile Thrombolysis Randomized Controlled Trials

  • Time: 7:30am - 9:00am
  • Location: Room 502A
  • Thrombolysis addresses unmet clinical needs and is the subject of ongoing featured randomized controlled trials.

New and Alternative Thrombolytic Therapies (a Stroke Journal session)

  • Time: 9:15am - 10:45am
  • Location: Room 408AB
  • Intravenous thrombolysis stands as a fundamental treatment for reducing disability in patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke. Alteplase has been the gold standard thrombolytic agent since the groundbreaking NINDS trial in 1995. However, a global shortage in thrombolytic supply and the high cost of alteplase have posed significant barriers to the widespread adoption of this therapy, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Recent trials have demonstrated the non-inferiority of alternative thrombolytics, such as tenecteplase, reteplase, urokinase, and staphylokinase, when compared to alteplase. A meta-analysis even revealed the superiority of tenecteplase over alteplase in terms of achieving excellent functional outcomes.
  • During this session, the presenters will delve into the latest trial data on emerging intravenous thrombolytic agents, exploring their benefits, limitations, and associated risks. Additionally, they will address the challenges involved in implementing these agents within various stroke care systems in specific regions worldwide.

The upcoming International Stroke Conference will showcase in-depth discussions and cutting-edge research on the treatment of cerebrovascular disease and brain health.
