The Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists is preparing for their annual conference taking place in Phoenix, Arizona, from August 8 through August 11. Registration is now open for attendees and exhibitors.
The conference, ADCES25, features four days of exciting scientific sessions, informational presentations, continuing education opportunities, and networking events. With over 3,000 attendees from all aspects of diabetes care, the conference is a great opportunity to share and present the latest findings and insights.

Friday, August 8
Enhancing Diabetes Prevention: Insights from the MetroHealth STRIDES Lifestyle Change Program

- Description: This session reviews the results of a study aimed to identify effective retention strategies implemented by STRIDES to begin establishment of engagement best practices. STRIDES’ focus on recruiting participants from underserved populations, including African American or Black individuals and those living near or below the poverty line, also provided an opportunity to analyze strategies aimed at addressing SDOH barriers. Attendees will gain insights into STRIDES’ retention strategies that encouraged participant engagement, including reducing SDOH barriers.

Exercise as Medicine: Designing Clinically Safe Exercise for Diabetes Care

- Description: Diabetes care and education specialists (DCES) need clear, evidence-based information on clinically safe exercise. While there will be a strong emphasis on resistance training, this session also covers aerobic exercise. The concepts, guidelines, and principles explained will highlight how to merge medical and rehabilitation guidelines with exercise science and how to make modifications for those living with diabetes and associated co-morbidities.
Maximize Motivation: A Motivational Interviewing Toolkit
- 1:15 PM – 2:00 PM
- Description: This interactive session explores the foundational principles of MI while providing hands-on experience through case-based learning and peer feedback. Participants will examine practical strategies for incorporating MI into diabetes care, focusing on person-centered communication techniques that drive meaningful outcomes.
Healing Through Habits: Building Self-Management Skills with Lifestyle Therapy
- 4:15 PM – 5:00 PM
- Description: This session will examine the pivotal role of habits in shaping health outcomes and present practical strategies for incorporating lifestyle therapy into diabetes care. Participants will explore techniques to promote healing, enhance patient engagement, and inspire lasting change.
Sunday, August 10
Implementing Lifestyle Medicine for People with Diabetes in a Rural Community
- 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM
- Description: This session examines barriers to implementing lifestyle medicine such as access to grocery stores, lack of transportation, and resistance from a farming culture. The presenter also addresses how to gain support from colleagues to create a multidisciplinary team approach.
Implementing Nutrition and Lifestyle Recommendations in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes
- 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM
- Description: This session describes how T2D prevention, treatment, and reversal is possible with Food is Medicine (FIM), specifically a whole food plant predominant diet and other lifestyle behaviors.

Improving Self-management Through Person-centered Lifestyle Medicine and Shared Medical Visits
- 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM
- Description: Managing T2D requires a multifaceted approach, including behavior modification, medical nutrition therapy, and medications. Given the urgency to reduce T2D and pre-diabetes, this session explores lifestyle modification supported by shared medical visits (SMVs) as a transformative strategy.
