The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is hosting its annual conference, ESC Congress 2025, in Madrid from Friday, August 29, through Monday, September 1. Registration for the four-day event is now open, with a digital attendance option also available.

ESC 2025 is set to be packed with exciting presentations, including the release of three new ESC guidelines, a focused update, and a consensus statement.

New Insights into Diagnosis and Treatment of Secondary Hypertension

  • Description: This session will provide in-depth insight into the most common forms of secondary hypertension covering both the pathophysiology and practical approach to management of endocrine and renal disease; and to provide an update about recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of secondary hypertension.

Late-Breaking Clinical Trials: Hypertension

  • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Description: This sessions features the following clinical trial presentations: RETREAT-FRAIL: A randomized controlled clinical trial on the effects of reduction of antihypertensive treatment in very old frail patients; OUTREACH – adherence to treatment and blood pressure control; AIMHY-INFORM: Dual Therapy Arm; Novel Triple Single-Pill for Uncontrolled Hypertension.

Preventing and Treating Hypertension Beyond Medication

  • 1:45 – 3:00 PM
  • Description: The session will explore evidence-based, non-pharmacological approaches to prevent and manage hypertension effectively focusing on lifestyle, dietary modification, and behavioural strategies; and to address the importance of tailoring interventions to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.

  • Description: The focus of the session is to provide a global perspective on new approaches to treatment of hypertension through the lens of experts in epidemiology, pharmacology, and implementation science; to deliver updates on recent advances in treatment of hypertension; and to evaluate how to implement them into different healthcare systems around the world.

Management of Hypertension Guidelines: From Development to Implementation

  • 12:30 – 1:30 PM
  • Description: Presenters will share an overview of current treatments for hypertension from primary healthcare to specialised clinics, including ways to overcome gaps, utilise technology, and personalise care in accordance with the updated ESC Guidelines for the Management of Hypertension, released in 2024.

Hypertension with Cardiometabolic Comorbidities: Which Drugs to Select and Which to Avoid

  • 1:45 – 3:00 PM
  • Description: Attendees will learn to examine how drug treatment can influence metabolic features and electrolytes in patients with hypertension in the context of urate, potassium, and glucose, as well as the impact of weight on the selection of drug therapies to treat hypertension.

  • Description: This series of four mini presentations will cover topics like potassium enriched salt in prevention and treatment of hypertension and salt substitutes and premature cardiovascular deaths in Africa: a modeling study. 

Difficult to Control Hypertension: A Practical Approach in Four Steps

  • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Description: Presenters will provide up-to-date practical clinical algorithms from the diagnostic workup to device-based treatment; and to emphasise the importance of recognising pseudo-resistant hypertension, implementation of lifestyle changes, appropriate drug combinations, and indications for device-based therapies.
