Urinary tract infections are a common patient experience, particularly for women. The typical symptoms of such infections may include dysuria, increased urinary frequency, and hematuria. A urinary tract infection in an otherwise healthy, nonpregnant individual with a structurally normal urinary tract is commonly referred to as an uncomplicated urinary tract infection.
Today, we are taking a look at the latest information regarding uncomplicated urinary tract infections in relation to clinical guidance, FDA approvals, and ongoing clinical trials.
Current Clinical Guidance Related to Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection
The American Urolo//gical Association (AUA), Society of Urodynamics Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU), and the Canadian Urological Association (CUA) published a guideline in September 2025 that focuses on recurrent uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women. Additionally, the American College of Radiology (ACR) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) both published guidance on urinary tract infections that include uncomplicated urinary tract guidance within the past five years.
