- Date: May 28, 2025
- Company: Alcon
- Brand: TRYPTYR
- Generic: acoltremon ophthalmic solution
- Indication: TRYPTYR (acoltremon ophthalmic solution) 0.003% is indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED).
As a first-in-class TRPM8 receptor agonist that rapidly stimulates natural tear production, TRYPTYR is now approved by the FDA for the treatment of dry eye disease. By Alcon’s estimates, under a tenth of people living in the United States with dry eye disease use a prescription product for treatment — or a little more than 34 million people.
TRYPTYR’s approval was supported by two Phase 3 clinical trials where more than 900 patients living with dry eye disease were observed to experience increased natural tear production through a 90 day evaluation.
With the recent approval of TRYPTYR, we will be anticipating possible updates to the following clinical guidelines in the coming months and years:
- Dry Eye Syndrome Preferred Practice Pattern (AAO)
- Management of Thyroid Eye Disease (ATA/ETA)
- Eye Care of the Patient with Diabetes Mellitus (AOA)
