The 2025 Kidney Week, the annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), is just a few weeks away. From November 5 to November 9, in Houston, Texas, professionals from around the world will gather to discuss the latest research and insights regarding all aspects of kidney health.
Registration for Kidney Week is currently open for individuals, groups, and exhibitors. There are no digital attendance options available. On-demand content will be posted in late November and through early December on the ASN eLearning Center.
With over 12,000 anticipated attendees, Kidney Week is packed with excellent networking opportunities, insightful presentations, and educational sessions. Today, we’re spotlighting some of those educational sessions, specifically the diabetic kidney disease sessions scheduled for the conference. Please note that the dates and times are accurate as of October 6, 2025. Consult with the official Kidney Week schedule for the most up-to-date information.
Wednesday, November 5 (early program)
Diabetes Management for the Nephrology Care Team: New Technology and New Drugs
- 7:00 AM – 5:10 PM
- Description: This program brings together members of the nephrology care team to discuss the cutting edge of rapidly advancing diabetes technologies and treatments. Diabetes is the most common cause of CKD and kidney failure requiring dialysis or kidney transplantation. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pumps, and closed-loop technology (automated insulin delivery [AID]) have revolutionized diabetes care. New drug classes are also available to treat diabetes and reduce CKD-related complications, including progression to kidney failure and cardiovascular disease.
Thursday, November 6
- 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- Description: Despite improvements in therapy for DKD, new therapies remain necessary to optimize patient prognosis. This session reviews new targets and approaches for the treatment of DKD. Attendees will learn about the use of mineralocorticoid receptor agonists and aldosterone synthase inhibitors in the treatment of DKD, the importance of the soluble guanylyl cyclase pathway for proper endothelial health, and more.
Friday, November 7
Effects of Diabetes and Diabetes Therapies on the Skeleton
- 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
- Description: Diabetes and CKD are both associated with increased fracture risk. This session reviews the effects of diabetes and CKD on bones and the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on mineral metabolism in patients with CKD (receiving or not receiving dialysis). Presenters will discuss the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on mineral metabolism, the effects of gastric bypass surgery on bone health, and more.
Clinical-Pathologic-Molecular Correlations in Diabetic Kidney Disease
- 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
- Description: Numerous biologic processes and kidney structures are involved in the progression of DKD. This session explores classic and nonclassic pathologic changes in DKD and focuses on major cell types and pathologic compartments critical to the natural history of disease.
Sunday, November 9
Team Science and Multi-Omics in the Quest to Cure Diabetic Kidney Disease
- 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
- Description: Multi-omic approaches are unraveling the pathogenesis of DKD at a rapid pace and require multidisciplinary collaboration for success. This session provides an update on cutting-edge techniques and accomplishments from scientists on the front line of basic science in DKD.
