The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) has announced that the Position Statement on Transcatheter Occlusion of PDA in Premature Infants is now available for public comment.

In 2019, the FDA approved the first PDA occlusion device for low birth-weight infants. Since then, there has been a rapid increase in the use of tcPDA occlusion in this population, with catheter-based procedures surpassing surgical ligation at many centers. While short-term outcomes have been positive, long-term success hinges on the understanding and implementation of best practices specific to these procedures. This position statement addresses key considerations for patient selection, optimal procedural and technical approaches, operator training and competency, and institutional factors necessary for successful program implementation.

As part of the development process, SCAI welcomes reviews and feedback from the public. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments here by March 12th, 2025. Please note that all comments must be completed in one sitting to ensure they are considered.
