Placenta Accreta Spectrum – A Multidisciplinary Approach for a Challenging Surgical Scenario
- 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
- Description: Increasingly, placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) or the abnormal attachment of the placenta (formerly known as morbidly adherent placenta) with potential involvement of other pelvic viscera complicates obstetrical practice in the United States. While causes are variable, the increase in cesarean delivery rates and resulting uterine endometrial and myometrial scarring are thought to be the chief driver of this continued increase in incidence. As the involvement of the placenta may involve the bladder, the pelvic sidewall as well as the rectum, these cases are best managed in a multidisciplinary fashion.
