Title
Narcolepsy Type 1 and Beyond: The Role of Orexin Agonists
Link
Description
Join sleep medicine experts Dr Yves Dauvilliers and Dr Phyllis Zee for an in-depth exploration of emerging, pathophysiology-directed therapies for narcolepsy type 1 (NT1). The program reviews current treatments and their limitations, highlights the unmet needs that drive polypharmacy and poor symptom control, and explains the neurobiology of orexin signaling as the foundation for next-generation therapeutics. Forward-looking conversations address how orexin agonists may reshape NT1 management, reduce treatment complexity, and potentially inform approaches for related hypersomnolence disorders. Clinicians will leave with actionable insights that support evidence-based decisions and more personalized care for people with central disorders of hypersomnolence.
Target Audience
Clinicians specializing in adult and pediatric sleep medicine. A secondary audience includes neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology, and pediatric physicians and allied NPs and PAs. Because of the nature of the presentation and associated learning objectives, neurology and psychiatry clinicians who do not manage sleep disorders are invited to participate in this session.
Learning Objectives
  • Discuss unmet needs in the management of narcolepsy, including the current limitations of symptom-directed treatments and the common need for polypharmacy
  • Describe orexin-based physiology, the role of orexin deficiency in narcolepsy type 1, and the rationale for the use of orexin agonists in development
