Title
BEYOND THE FOG: Reframing Diagnosis in Idiopathic Hypersomnia
Link
Description
Through expert commentary, caregiver insight, and a case-driven exploration of diagnostic challenges, Dr Michael Thorpy and patient-advocate Claire Wylds-Wright examine idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) as a multi-symptom, high-burden condition. Faculty review new findings from the Sleep Consortium’s Illuminate Hypersomnia initiative, clarify updates to diagnostic criteria, and highlight limitations of traditional sleep testing. Attendees will learn practical strategies to distinguish IH from narcolepsy type 2 and mood disorders, integrate patient-reported outcomes, and recognize real-world barriers to care and treatment access. Designed to close persistent diagnostic gaps and promote more patient-centered evaluations, this activity equips clinicians with actionable, evidence-based approaches to improve the recognition and management of IH.
