Title
Biomarkers, Biologics, and Breakthroughs in COPD
Link
Description
This 60-minute Clinical Compass activity provides pulmonology specialists, nurse practitioners, and physician associates with an interactive, expert-led exploration of the evolving role of inflammation-targeted therapies in COPD management. Despite optimized triple inhaled therapy, many patients continue to experience exacerbations—a signal of persistent type 2 inflammation in a significant subset of individuals. This program unpacks the pathophysiologic rationale for targeted therapy and examines recent evidence supporting the integration of biologic agents into clinical care. Through concise faculty commentary, interactive content, and application-focused cases, the activity reinforces the utility of blood eosinophil count as a biomarker for treatment selection and guides learners in tailoring management plans.
Target Audience
The target audience for this program will include pulmonologists, allergists/immunologists, and critical care medicine physicians (MDs, DOs), nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates/physician assistants (PAs) practicing in these specialties; as well as primary care clinicians (MDs, DOs, NPs, and PAs) and geriatricians caring for patients with or at risk for COPD.
Learning Objectives
  • Review the relationship between inflammation, exacerbation, and disease progression in COPD, noting the underlying pathophysiology
  • Discuss recent evidence surrounding the use of biologic agents in the management of patients with COPD, including patient populations and outcomes
