The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) has announced that the Position Statement on Intracardiac Echocardiography to Guide Structural Heart Disease Interventions is now available for public comment.
As structural heart disease (SHD) interventions advance, the need for minimally invasive imaging increases. Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) has long guided catheter-based procedures but was previously limited to complex valvular interventions. While transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) remains key for guiding SHD procedures, its imaging limitations and the shift away from general anesthesia during minimally invasive treatments have led to greater use of physician-led ICE. This statement explores the growing role of ICE in SHD interventions and suggests clinical pathways for integrating new ICE technologies into healthcare systems.
As part of the development process, SCAI welcomes reviews and feedback from the public. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments here by Monday, April 21, 2025. Please note that all comments must be completed in one sitting to ensure they are considered.
