Today, we're highlighting 10 of some of the most significant clinical guidance publications released in 2026 so far. We selected nine clinical practice guidelines and one consensus statement for today's top 10 list. The publications originate from organizations such as the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Urological Association (AUA), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Let's take a look at what some of the most important guidelines published in the first three months of the year are. In January, we saw an AHA/American Stroke Association (ASA) guideline on the early management of patients with acute ischemic stroke, which was an update to their 2018 guideline on the same topic. Also in January, ASCO/Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) released a guideline on the treatment of multiple myeloma, which updated their recommendations outlined in the 2019 version.

Three guidelines published in February made our list. The new ACC/AHA guideline, Evaluation and Management of Acute Pulmonary Embolism in Adults, featured acute pulmonary embolism clinical categories that enhance evidence-based decision-making, the precision of severity classification, and prognosis assessment. Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) released a CAP guideline for infants and children older than three months, which updated their previous guideline from 2011. The third February release was an AUA/Society of Urological Oncology (SUO) prostate cancer guideline, which was an update to their 2023 guideline.
March was a very busy month for clinical guidelines. Half of the clinical guidance featured today is from March. The ACC/AHA Management of Dyslipidemia guideline updated and replaced their 2018 version. A new American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) guideline featuring two dozen recommendations on hepatic encephalopathy was also released in March. Another new March guideline came from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which released a guideline on diagnosing and managing faltering weight. A consensus statement, the only one featured today, from American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) on adults with prediabetes and diabetes mellitus also released during March. Finally, the ESICM/Society of Clinical Care Medicine (SCCM) guideline on managing sepsis and septic shock rounds out the list for the month.
With the year only being a quarter of the way over, we anticipate what new guidelines and clinical guidance will emerge from North American and international societies through the next nine months.
