In today’s rapid update, we’ll just be going over a summary of updated recommendations from this consensusohhh so for the full consensus, make sure to check it out on guidelinecentral.com

Let’s get started.

  • The consensus suggests prolonged-infusion β-lactam antibiotics over short infusions to reduce mortality among severely ill adult patients, particularly those with Gram-negative infections.
  • The consensus suggests prolonged-infusion β-lactam antibiotics over short infusions to increase clinical cure among severely ill adult patients, particularly those with Gram-negative infections.
  • When initiating continuous infusion β-lactams in severely ill patients, the consensus suggests administering a loading dose to improve clinical success; for extended infusion, evidence is insufficient to recommend for or against a loading dose.
