Barriers and Facilitators to Parkinson’s Disease Research Participation Amongst Underrepresented Groups
  • BMC Research Notes, May 2025
  • Description: Even though the growing prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) is inclusive of ethnic and racial minority groups, these populations remain underrepresented in PD clinical research. This community-based study seeks to add to the limited knowledge on barriers and facilitators to underrepresented group enrollment in PD trials by assessing minority community members' PD and research knowledge, trust in medical researchers, and likelihood to participate in research based on various study design factors.

Lecanemab in Clinical Practice: Real-world Outcomes in Early Alzheimer’s Disease

  • Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy, May 2025
  • Description: Lecanemab, a monoclonal antibody targeting amyloid beta, has recently been approved for treatment of early-stage Alzheimer's disease (AD), demonstrating amyloid plaque reduction and slowing of cognitive decline in clinical trials. However, real-world data on its efficacy and safety remain limited. The Cognitive Neurology Unit at Tel Aviv Medical Center (TLVMC) established an infrastructure to facilitate advanced treatments for AD, utilising a multidisciplinary approach to patient screening, diagnosis, treatment initiation and follow up.

Computer Vision Uncovers Three Fundamental Dimensions of Levodopa-responsive Motor Improvement in Parkinson’s Disease

  • Npj Parkinson’s Disease, May 2025
  • Description: We developed VisionMD, an AI computer vision platform, analyzing over 1200 clinical videos of Parkinson's patients' hand movements across 13 years. This large-scale, markerless analysis identified three kinematic domains (speed, consistency, timing/scale) reliably improved by levodopa. Our method offers objective, quantitative motor assessment, reducing subjectivity and enhancing reproducibility compared to traditional scales.

Spatial Neglect After Subcortical Stroke May Reflect Cortico-cortical Disconnection

  • Scientific Reports, May 2025
  • Description: Spatial neglect is commonly attributed to lesions of a predominantly right-hemispheric cortical network. Although spatial neglect was also repeatedly observed after lesions to the basal ganglia and the thalamus, many anatomical network models omit these structures. We investigated if disruption of functional or structural connectivity can explain spatial neglect in subcortical stroke.

Assessing Social Cognition and Risk-taking Behaviour in Patients with Young-onset Dementia

  • PLoS One, May 2025
  • Description: Despite the importance of social cognition impairments in the diagnosis of young-onset dementia and the impact of social cognition impairments on social behaviour, there is a lack of valid and well normed measures for certain aspects of social cognition, such as emotion, experience, and empathy.
